Recovery Ministry
Who's it for?
Our Recovery Ministry is for anyone who has life struggles, habits, or dependencies that have led--or are leading to--destructive consequences. This group is not just for those struggling with drug or alcohol addiction.
Is this only for people who attend Morning Star Church?
Absolutely not. Anyone is welcome.
When and where is it?
Recovery groups meet in The Loft No. 5 on Saturdays at 8:00 pm (following our 6:30 pm worship service).
Are there monthly dues or anything like that?
Nope. The program is free.
What happens at these meetings?
We offer open share groups where people can share their struggles and receive inspiration, strength, and support from others who've experienced victory and freedom from their own struggle. On the first, third, and fifth Saturdays of the month, our groups are co-ed. On the second and fourth Saturdays, we divide into men's and women's groups.
What's the philosophy behind MSC's Recovery Ministry?
The program:
- is biblically based.
- is forward-looking. Rather than dredging up the past, we focus on what you can do right now.
- emphasizes personal responsibility. We encourage you to face up to your own choices and deal with what you can deal with.
- calls for a spiritual commitment to Jesus Christ. The only One who can bring hope and recovery is Christ.
- emphasizes growth through community. People grow when they're surrounded by other people who are growing. A community approach also provides accountability.
- addresses life's most common problems. This includes, but certainly isn't limited to, drug or alcohol addiction, codependency, smoking, food addiction, and abuse. We focus not on the problem, but on the solution: Jesus Christ.
Who leads the groups?
Our open share groups are led by growing Christians who have at least six months of consistent recovery. They attend ongoing leadership training sessions and have a covenant that calls them to Christian character and conduct. The program is overseen by Pastor Ike Patterson, a Certified Pastoral Counselor with over 35 years of experience in ministry, counseling, and leadership development.
