The Leading Edge

Leadership is critical to the success of the local church.  In Romans 12:8, the Apostle Paul writes that if we have the gift of leadership, then we must “lead diligently.”  In other words, be intentional, hard-working, conscientious, and thorough.

At Morning Star, we take seriously our responsibility to come alongside staff and volunteer leaders, equipping them to fulfill Paul's vision for leadership. Our training program, The Leading Edge, includes five components:

1. Annual Event: The Next Big Step

2011 dates to be determined

Gathering our entire leadership network on an annual basis allows us to express appreciation to our leaders, honor those who've offered outstanding servant leadership in the previous year, share God's vision for the upcoming year, equip leaders with information and skills to do ministry with excellence, and offer encouragement to keep running hard after God's purpose for our leaders' life and ministry.

2. Basic Leadership Training: Developing the Heart of Christ

Developing the Heart of Christ is for all leaders at Morning Star: staff, small group leaders and apprentices, ministry team leaders and apprentices, and those serving in administrative roles on the Ad Board, Finance, and Trustee teams. The sessions focus on equipping participants to become Christ-like leaders. Led by Pastors Mike and Ike, they are inspirational, informational, biblical, and practical.

3. Small Group Coaching Experience: Lead Like Jesus

Lead Like Jesus is a small group follow-up to Developing the Heart of Christ. Based on Ken Blanchard's and Phil Hodges' book of the same title and facilitated by our leadership coaches, the sessions will allow participants to dive deeper into the material presented in Registration for our 2009 Lead Like Jesus sessions is now closed. Check back soon for 2010 opportunities.

4. Ongoing Leadership Training

The last component of The Leading Edge includes continuing education opportunities. Offered eight times per year, these sessions are led by volunteer leaders in the Morning Star family who have marketplace experience and expertise in leadership development. We ask each leader to attend a minimum of three continuing education sessions each year. These training sessions are open to anyone who attends Morning Star Church, as well as to our community. 5. WCA Leadership Summit (August 5-6, 2010)
