Women's Ministry

The phrase “Women’s Ministry” seems to have some association with things like gossip, stale cookies, and boring presentations. Not so much at Morning Star! We have a vibrant group of women in our church family who represent different seasons of life, backgrounds, and interests. What they all share is the desire to grow closer to Christ and to each other so they can make a difference in their families and the people around them.

Our women’s ministries include four main programs:

Activities

We recognize that among work, family, school, and volunteer commitments, it’s tough sometimes for women to stop, take a breath, and just hang out with friends. So we’re intentional about offering those take-a-breath opportunities throughout the year. We might have a sleepover (see? not boring), play bunco, or host a big ol’ party around the holidays. These activities are designed specifically to help women make connections with one another and to provide non-threatening opportunities to invite women not already connected to Morning Star Church.

Retreats

While our retreats provide opportunities to connect with other women, their primary purpose is to help women strengthen their personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Our 2011 Women's Get-Away was April 2/3. Set at the Cedar Creek Conference Center in New Haven, Missouri, this was a great opportunity for women to build their relationships with one another and with God.

Our 2010 on-campus retreat, Refresh Refill Renew, included presentations by our pastors’ wives, Debra Patterson, Dede Schreiner, and Lorilise Scarborough, and Karen Hull. In case you missed it, the audio from the retreat is now available for download:

Mentoring

It may sound a little silly, but being a woman is tough! Think about what we deal with on a regular basis: Hormones. Stereo-types. A culture that’s enamored with do-it-all, have-it-all, perfect-it-all mentality. At Morning Star, we're developing a mentoring program to help women navigate through all of that stuff. Since we're a multi-generational bunch, we can partner younger women with been-there-done-that women, and through those partnerships both women can grow ... especially spiritually!

Mothers of Preschoolers

Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) meets at Morning Star twice each month (on Friday mornings). We spend time in fellowship with one another, learning from speakers and making crafts—all while enjoying a little break from our preschoolers! Learn More >>
